Space Heating

Hydronic Heating
Insolar has been working closely with Greenheat to bring solar preheated domestic hot water together with hydronic radiator heating panels. Combining the two systems is possible by using copper radiator panels which carry potable water.

  • There are savings in pipe-work - one set of pipes distributes hot water to the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms AND to the heating radiators.
  • There are savings in gas water heaters - one instantaneous gas water heater serves the two functions - you save one gas boiler - approx $1,000.
  • You get instant hot water when you turn on any tap or shower as the water is being pumped around a ring main.
  • The average household can save 40,000 litres of water each year - all that cold water that goes down the drain while you wait for your shower to get hot enough for you to get in.

  • These systems need to be designed and individually quoted on, but a rule of thumb is that it will cost $1,000 per average room fully installed.

    Nectre Fire
Modern wood heaters are so efficient that they create 80% less CO2 and use 80% less fuel than an open fire. By burning the Eco log (compressed sawdust) you are using an otherwise waste product that contains 2-3 times more heat energy than an ordinary piece of fire-wood.

Wood heaters with a water jacket are an extremely efficient way of dealing with the boosting of solar hot water as it is only in winter, when the sun doesn't give quite enough energy to heat your hot water, that you would light your fire and bring the water up to the required temperature.

Any fire can be fitted with a flue collar water jacket, but the ideal is to buy a fire which houses the water jacket in the fire box. Insolar have sourced the best of breed fires manufactured in Australia and offer a range to heat spaces from 15 squares to a massive 40 square home. Complete wood-heater systems including flue kit and water jacket range from $1,450 to $2,650 - not bad for something that will heat your home and provide you with winter hot water.

While there is only one system on the market that has been specifically designed to combine solar and fire water heating, most systems can incorporate a wood heater booster by the use of a heat exchanger.
